Name: Ella Marsh
Age/DOB: 16 / 21 June
Gender: female
Sexuality: none whatsoever, till someone changes that XD
Physical Description:

She's is a petite little thing, lithe and willowy, with just enough curve to her figure to attract attention from an admiring eye if she would let them. Ella keeps her dark brown hair long to allow her to hide her bright blue eyes from the world, and typically covers her figure in simple, almost baggy attire. Her hands, which always seem to be either twisting her hair or flipping through the pages of another book, are calloused and dexterous from playing the cello and violin.

Personality:

Ella is your typical wallflower and sweetheart, afraid of nearly everyone and bashful to the point of adorable. Quite and soft spoken, she's amazingly self-reliant. Ella hates to be a bother or do anything that would offend anyone, especially her dear mother, whom she is terribly attached to. She's somewhat heartbroken at having been sent away, though she knows it was with loving intentions, and is probably for the best of her. Still, Goldfinch is nothing like she's ever experienced before. Determined not to let her mother down, the girl is focused heavily on her school work, often found hiding in the library.

Her only real outlets from the constant studying is yoga and the cello. Especially cello. It's there, with the instrument vibrating through her chest and the deep tones ringing in her ears that she can relax and express the passion and emotions bottled within. Ella had fallen in love with that sound as a little girl, her mother playing cd's and taking comfort in the sounds when she was troubled. And so it had been passed down to her as well for music to heal her soul. As skilled as she is, she would never pursue a career in performance. Plagued with stage fright, she tries her best to hide even that from her classmates if she can.

Despite her aversion to groups of people and being the center of anyone attention, she is extremely kind hearted. In an attempt to make a little extra money to keep from having to call home, she's started offering some of her spare time for tutoring. Classwork, after all, is different then socializing. And as long as she has a textbook in front of her and a question that needs answered, she can function well enough. Ella'd never really had much in the way of friendships before, and certainly nothing you could even remotely consider a relationship. But a small few have managed to gentle their way past her defenses. Given time she is warm and affectionate, considerate and loyal almost to the point of martyrdom.

History:

Ella was born the only child of a Randon and Elizabeth Marsh in the Tipperary Hill section of Syracuse, NY. Her father, a violent alcoholic, left the two women behind when she was about 7 years old. While she herself had never suffered at his hand (indeed, she was almost invisible to him, and perhaps therein lies the roots of her tendency to fade into the background), she'd often been awakened in the night to the sounds of him stumbling home and taking out his frustrations on his wife. When the man didn't return home, and it started to become clear to her that he never would, the little girl decided that she would do her best to make sure that mommy never cried again... at least not because of her. She became the perfect daughter, working hard at school and picking up the slack around the house. Elizabeth took up long hours to support them, working double shifts on two jobs just to make sure that her daughter was taken care of. They had to leave the house on the hill, no longer ablet o make the payments, and moved to a small Columbus Ave apartment in the poorer, though undoubtedly more eccentric Westcott District. In an attempt to take care of her mother as well, little Ella learned how to do laundry, and though she couldn't cook much, would at least make coffee and sometimes simple meals of salads and sandwiches. her small attempts though only seemed to make her mother cry more sometimes, and the poor girl determined to try harder.

At the age of 10 one of her teachers first took notice of the waif of a child. Christina Borrecki, her music teacher, couldn't help but pay attention to the dark haired girl with the crystal eyes who, not only seemed to enjoy when she played chamber music for the class, but could also hum along with many of the strings. Pulling her aside one day, she asked where she heard it. Ella admitted shyly that her mother often played such music, holding her to her chest as she hummed along with the cellos. Those moments were so soothing to them both, where suddenly life didn't seem so hard. Moved by such a simple admission, Christina somehow managed to find a violin to lend, and promised the girl lessons if she would work hard. "Cellos are too big" she explained as Ella stood there wide eyed, hugging the black case with her new treasure tightly. "If you can learn this, I'll make sure to find you someone to teach you cello."

It wasn't till three years later that her mother learned of the music lessons. When she first found that little black case hidden under the bed she was horrified, even went down to the school to argue with the teacher. But once she heard her daughter play, she couldn't hold back the tears. It was there with her mother crying on her shoulder and muttering what a wonderful little girl she had that Ella found her own happiness. She started playing more at home, and after she was finally able to take up the larger instrument even started taking up small jobs playing for gallery openings and weddings that her teacher would set up for her. It wasn't much money, and it terrified her to no end having all those people watching her. But she could finally really help out. Every penny she made, Ella would slip into her mothers purse or pocket, hoping it would be enough to lighten the older womans worries. It was at one of these gallery openings that another angel entered her life.

She was playing down at Metaphoristry in Armory Square when a loud eccentric Texan, who just happened to be showcasing her work, marveled quite openly at the 14 year old who had mastered Chopins 'Cassado'. Ella soon found herself and her mother both being griped and greeted by Parker Berio, an artist as big and open as her home state. Parker took a liking to "the girls" as she called them, and started trying to invite them out, asking them to her parties and events, having Ella perform for her whenever she could, and basically inviting herself into their lives. It worked. And soon they found themselves leaving behind their cozy apartment to move in with Parker and make a new family.

And it was a happy family. Despite her eccentricities and touchy, feely behaviors, Parker was a good woman... a good substitute parent to Ella. Elizabeth didn't have to keep such long hours, and could spend time with them again. She could tell the affection was real, but she knew deep down that something about her was bothered. the teenager found out one night, coming home from lessons to end up overhearing a conversation. Parker was worried about her, claiming it was upsetting how few friends she had, how shy she was and her lack of a boyfriend... a girlfriend... anything. "We need to help her... we have to let her go." It was a few days later that Ella was told she would be leaving the only town she'd ever known to head west to Goldfinch Academy. As much as she hated the idea, she quietly accepted it, thanked them for their kindness and concern. And went to pack her bags.

Now she's a million miles from home, in a strange land full of strange people. The campus is lovely, the classwork is challenging and the teachers are stimulating. But the other students are a mystery to her. So open and friendly...

Perhaps, she can make it through alright. If she just keeps her head down and her cello nearby.
